On October 11, 2024, the International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA), submitted a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, advocating for the prioritization of quantum technologies during Canada’s G7 Presidency in 2025. This critical moment provides Canada with a unique opportunity to lead the global conversation on quantum innovation, continuing its legacy of driving major international initiatives through the G7.
With Canada’s National Quantum Strategy launched in 2023, the country has already positioned itself as a leader in quantum research and commercialization. QuIC, alongside ICQIA’s other founding members—QIC, QED-C, and Q-STAR—stressed that the upcoming G7 Presidency, coinciding with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology in 2025, offers a perfect stage for Canada to champion quantum technologies. This call aligns with the growing recognition of quantum’s potential to address global challenges related to economic growth, national security, and sustainable technological development.
The letter also highlighted the inaugural QUANTUM NOW forum in Montreal, scheduled for June 2025, which could serve as a platform for G7-related discussions. The International Council of Quantum Industry Associations (ICQIA) believes that prioritizing quantum technologies will enhance cooperation among G7 nations, foster resilient quantum supply chains, and bolster inclusive talent development, positioning the G7 at the forefront of this technological transformation.
This international initiative reinforces QuIC’s leadership in representing the European quantum industry on the global stage. By advocating for the prioritization of quantum technologies, QuIC is not only helping shape a shared vision for the future but also adding significant value for its members by facilitating international collaboration and driving forward critical advancements in this cutting-edge sector.
