The European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC) Welcomes U.N. Proclamation of 2025 as International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

We are delighted to announce that on June 7, 2024, the United Nations declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). As the leading voice of the European quantum technology industry, our association is fully supportive of this significant initiative.

The U.N.’s declaration encourages individuals, groups, schools, institutions, and governments to seize the opportunity to enhance awareness about quantum science and technology throughout 2025. The IYQ Steering Committee is planning a series of global initiatives and events aimed at engaging audiences who may not yet recognize the crucial role of quantum science and technology.

Recognized as a pivotal scientific field of the 21st century, quantum science and technology will play a crucial role in addressing major societal challenges outlined in the U.N.’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. These include climate change, energy, food safety and security, and access to clean water.

One of the most vital steps toward discovering new insights and solutions is to inspire young people worldwide to become the next generation of quantum pioneers. This International Year is a unique chance for young minds — and the curious of any age — to delve into how quantum science underpins our physical world, drives technological advancements, influences government policies, impacts the global economy, and shapes art and culture.

QuIC invites societies, institutions, universities, and corporations to join this global initiative. Those interested in becoming official sponsors of IYQ events and activities can learn more about sponsorship opportunities or reach out directly at info@quantum2025.org.

Together, let us embrace this chance to elevate quantum science and technology and its transformative potential for a better future.
